Reno, NV (MyNews4.com) -- The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada is reaching out to the local community to help disaster relief efforts in the Philippines.
Chief Executive Officer for the Northern Nevada Chapter Clara Andriola says food and water are the essentials they are working on getting over there.
Andriola says more than 600,000 people have been placed in 1,400 shelters after Typhoon Haiyan.
She says they have already received phone calls from the community from people asking for ways to help and some have already stepped up and made donations.
She says there has also been an effort to connect loved ones through the Red Cross' Family Tracing Program.
