RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) – Congressman Mark Amodei welcomed Reno High School students, competing in the We the People National Finals, to Washington D.C.

25 Reno High School students, along with their teachers Brien Karlin and Richard Clark, are representing the Silver State in the 26th Annual We the People National Finals. The competition is held April 26 through 29, in hearing rooms on Capitol Hill and on the campus of George Mason University, brings students from across the country to Washington, D.C.

The We the People National Finals take the form of simulated congressional hearings. During the hearings, groups of students testify as constitutional experts before panels of judges acting as congressional committees. Each hearing begins with opening statements by the students followed by questioning periods where judges test the students' knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply constitutional principles.

While in Washington, D.C., students have the opportunity to explore the nation's capital, learn about government beyond the classroom, and meet with elected officials. Since 1987, more than 30 million students and 90,000 teachers have participated in the We the People program.
