RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Some homeowners are still picking up the pieces left behind from this weekend's storm. Not only were some fences knocked down, some pets got out, as well.

On Tuesday, the Animal Control Shelter is packed with people hoping to reunite with their four-legged friends. More than two dozen dogs are there as a result of the storm, and many more are missing.

Barry Brode, the Director of Washoe County Animal Services, says if you have lost your pet, the first thing you should do is call Animal Services. They are open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily. You also need to go online, and file a missing dog report.

If you come across a lost dog, call Animal Services immediately. Do not approach the dog, or use your own dog to try and lure the dog, because you don't know what that animal has been through, or its vaccination history.

But one thing is for sure, when the dog and its person are re-united, it is a very happy and relieving feeling.

"It's very emotional," Brode said. "When the dog sees its owner down the hallway, it starts yelping and crying in happiness. Sometimes, there's tears from both the family and the staff. So, it's a win for everyone."

Animal Control has a $34 impound fee, and $9 per day the dog was housed. However, Brode says some of those fees may be waived, depending on the circumstance on how the dog got out. He also said they can bill you, just in case you do not have the money upfront.
