RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is hoping to raise $1 million at the 34th annual Ultimate Crab Feed and Auction

Boys & Girls Club Chief Professional Officer Mike Wurm says all of the money from ticket sales and the auction will go toward club operations to benefit the more than 11,000 kids the Boys & Girls Club serves. The Jack T. Reviglio Cioppino Feed proceeds adds up to about 15% of the Boys & Girls Club annual budget.

Cioppino is a seafood stew with everything from shrimp, crab, clams, fish and polenta. The cioppino served every year comes from the secret recipe that has been made by Bob Capurro and Bud Sorensen. The two have been cooking up the feast for more than 30 years.

The Cioppino feed and auction will be held at the Donald W. Reynolds Center at 2680 East 9th Street on Saturday. The silent auction begins at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

GIRLS AND BOYS CLUB - FROM LITTLE THINGS BIG THINGS HAPPEN: This wonderful labor of love owes a great debt of gratitude to Al Monticelli and Doctor "Doc" Ed Dehne. 1. In the early '70s days the primary main focus of the Boys (and now Girls) Club was boxing. 2. Monticelli was instrumental in putting hundreds of boxing events together, and "Doc" Dehne volunteered as ONLY volunteer to be the (mandatory required) ringside physician. 3. Between the 2 of them they administrated more than 2,500 boxing matches throughout those early years and into the late 1980s prior to Monticelli's untimely death. 4. The dedicated volunteering by these 2 Pioneers, along with fantastic support from local business leaders like the Reviglios of Western Nevada Supply and others, is what created the wonderful operation we have today. 5. These 2 leaders were also simultaneously instrumental in saving boxing throughout the nation; when one of the American Medical Association's top priorities was to ban boxing. 6. Many people deserve a lot of credit for this praiseworthy venture.. including these 2 Pioneers. BIG PS: Thelma and Ray Taveras also deserve heavy-duty Kudos for overseeing many of the young boys boxing teams of those days.
