RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- According to AppleInsider.com
, many thought apple's iCloud facility was only in the early planning stages, but an initial segment of the project is already complete and just weeks away from going online.
The new Apple iCloud facility will be Apple's fourth major server farm in the United States, and the third project Apple has built from scratch.
Last August, the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development approved tax abatements for Apple. In exchange, Apple committed to investing $400 million over the next four years in the data center, and $1 billion over the next 10 years. All of that money will directly benefit the local economy.
According to AppleInsider.com, this amount of land allows for expansion of both data center buildings and could eventually include solar fields.
Once the data center is complete, Apple estimates at least 35 direct Apple employees and more than 200 Apple-badged contractors will be employed.
