SPARKS, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Sparks Police have made an arrest in an indecent exposure case that may possibly involve several victims, including a 12-year-old girl.
According to the Sparks Police Department, Douglas Jones who is facing charges of indecent exposure and luring a child. Police believe he may have been operating in the areas of Shadow Lane and Round Mountain.
Police say they had received several reports of women stating Jones was driving his 1996 Ford Explorer in the area of Shadow Lane, approaching women and asking for directions. "He was pretty friendly, but you have to be leary of these people," said Sergeant Charles Alt. "It's kind of unusual in neighborhoods like that for someone to be asking for directions. If he's starting this way, what is he going to do in the future?"
Police say on one occasion in mid-April, Jones stopped his vehicle next to a woman in front of her own yard in the 3300-block of Montezuma Way. She told police he exposed himself in broad daylight.
News 4 spoke with the victim last week on the condition she remain anonymous. "He was very calm," she said. "He's like, 'what do you think of this?' I'm like 'of what?' I'm still looking at his face and that's when, you know..."
"Not the feeling you want to have: someone who feels completely comfortable with approaching you right in front of your home," she added.
Alt said on another occasion, Jones was driving his vehicle in the Round Mountain area on April 12, and stopped next to a 12-year-old girl. He said he asked for directions and also asked her to get inside of his vehicle. When she refused, he drove away.
Alt said witnesses were able to provide information that allowed detectives to place Jones under surveillance. Detectives followed Jones after work around 7 a.m. on Wednesday. He added they followed him through the parking lot of Reed High School twice, where a lot of summer time activity is underway. While he made no contact with anyone, police say they arrested Jones a short time later.
Jones' vehicle is described as a 1996 Ford Explorer with Nevada License number MA5ON. It is green over tan in color. If there is anyone who can provide additional information on this case, they are asked to contact Sparks Police or Secret Witness at 775-353-2241 or 775-322-4900.
