From the Ask Joe file, one of our viewers has a question about the immigration issue, and a possible local connection.

Nicole wrote in asking why the attempt to place 200 immigrants at the Rite of Passage School in Yerington is not being reported on?

Joe checked with Lyon County Manager Jeff Page about this issue. There was an urgent request by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide housing in Yerington for illegal immigrant children from Central and South America.

The request was to place them at the Silver State Academy, otherwise known as the Rite of Passage School. However, the director of that facility declined the request, in part, because he said there is not enough room to accommodate the large number of children who would need housing.

The letter from Lawrence Howell went on to say that any decision to provide in-state services will be made collaboratively with state and local leaders. He said, given these considerations, Rite of Passage has opted not to include Silver State Academy as a location for refugees.

So, while there was a request to house some of those children in Yerington, the request was not approved.

We are not at war with these kids. Something is going on down there that this flood of kids all of a sudden showed up. Instead of hating them find out what's wrong first. They probably are as scared as we are p.o.ed about it. If you look at it the right way...most of the other continents W/E of us are at war with each other. In our N/S hemisphere we have very little going on. We should be only involved in our section (N/S) the Americas. Pull our resources from overseas and give it to the Americas. Or be greedy and keep it in our Nation.

Joe, this might be a surprise to you, but the word "illegal" means "contrary or forbidden by law". There is no such thing as "person" who is forbidden by law, therefore the term "illegal immigrant" makes no sense. Especially when applied to children who clearly aren't even the ones who made the decision to come to america. "Illegal" is an adjective that can only be applied to actions.

If people are interested in illegals being housed in Yerington, CBP should go to the ranches and look at the employees. Peri farms is the only ones that I know that brings their help in legally by bus and send them back the same way.

We're still giving money to the Palestinians and the Iranians, for cryin' out loud. Time to stop giving any aid to our enemies, at least until we have more than we need again.
