A number of local organizations have boards of directors and one of our viewers has a question about the finances involved.
Peggy wrote in to ask when elected officials and hotel executives serve on the airport authority board or the RSCVA board of directors, do they get paid for that?

Let's start with the airport's board of directors.
I checked with airport spokesman Brian Kulpin who told me yes they are paid.  Each board member earns $560 per month.
Kulpin says that figure was established and has not been changed since the airport authority was created by state law in 1978.
Board members earn the $560 per month to attend one full board meeting a month and also two or three committee meetings.  Those may include finance, planning, and noise advisory groups.
So that's the going rate for the airport board.
Members of the local tourism board, the RSCVA earn $80 per meeting. That is also mandated by state law.
Ben Mcdonald at the RSCVA says members attend one monthly meeting and at least two committee meetings each month.
So each member can earn about $240 per month.
That money is budgeted and comes out of the agency's general fund.
So that's how the finances shake out.  Once again it's state law that dictates how much these board members are paid.
