From the Ask Joe file one of our viewers has a question that might be considered fitting on Valentines Day !
The viewer wrote in asking about a new store in Northwest Reno called "Crazy Sexy Hot." She is wondering how it was licensed to open where it is and why they are allowed to advertise so blatantly on their front windows ? She just doesn't think this kind of store belongs in a neighborhood strip mall.
I checked with Mike Chaump, business licensing manager for the city of Reno, and that store is fully licensed to be in business there.
The store located on Sharlands Avenue up near Somersett. Mike Chaump says technically it is a lingerie store. They are allowed to sell, let's just say some novelty items, but only a small percentage of the floor space can be devoted to that and that part of the store must be filtered in a way that makes it off limits to anyone under 18. The store does not sell magazines or books and there are also some restrictions on how late the business can stay open.
The City did inspect the store when it opened and they plan to do a re-inspection soon to make sure they're following the rules. But the bottom line is it is considered a lingerie store and not a sex shop and that's why the business license was approved in that residential area.
