Edmund Brown called up last week to say he lives on O'callahan Drive in Sparks near Katherine Dunn Elementary School.   He is concerned about drivers ignoring the speed limit.  He says it happens all the time but he says police told him they're too busy to do anything about it.    He wants to know what can be done?

O'callahan Drive runs right in front of Dunn Elementary School.
I checked with Jon Erickson, the city of Sparks transportation manager.   If you go to their website, which is,  they have a list of different traffic calming devices and an application for each  kind, whether it might be speed bumps or a round-a-bout or something else.  Just look under community services then find the traffic calming guide.
Erickson said you are also welcome to call him directly if you have specific questions.   His number is 353-7809.   He can tell you more about how to fill out an application so the city can explore what measures might be needed to get drivers to slow down in your area.

Hello Joe,thanks for your coverage of the O'Callaghan serious speeding problem. This not a new subject, infact there were speed bumps installed about 15 years ago. Then when the street was repaved the speed bumps were removed and never replaced. My question is why weren't the speed bumps replaced?I live at the corner of San Miguel and O'Callaghan,I can see the school from my house. The problem exists because O'Callaghan is a short cut(when compared to McCarren) to Reed high,Smiths shopping center and Baring blvd.,so people are naturally in a hurry.Bo 355-8362
