From the Ask Joe file, we have a question from a viewer about a recent story involving a baby which was declared dead twice.
Our viewer wrote in asking for an update on the investigation.
This case happened back in February. The baby was taken from West Hills Hospital to Renown, where it was pronounced dead.
But when it arrived at the medical examiners' office, someone there reported that they heard the baby breathing. The baby was then transported back to Renown, where it was pronounced dead for the second time in a matter of hours.
Joe checked back this week with the medical examiners office. According to Dr. Ellen Clark, the chief medical examiner, most of the lab tests are back, but they are waiting for the results of more specific microscopic examinations, which they hope to have within the next two weeks.
The case remains pending, and the law enforcement investigation so far suggests the baby's death was accidental. But whether the baby was still alive when it arrived at the medical examiner's office, we still don't know. Hopefully, more answers will be forthcoming once all the test results are in.
