Question:
Art and Ana Winston wrote in asking if Carson City is planning to purchase Empire Ranch Golf Course, and if so,  how will that impact those who live near the course?

Answer:
I checked with Public Works Director Darren Shulz and there is a new development on this issue.
Shulz said just this week a judge ruled the golf course is not eligible for bankruptcy.
The course is located near Fairview Drive and Highway 50.
Shulz confirmed Carson City is considering purchasing the course, but he says no discussions have taken place about what the future plans would be.
The big issue for the county is that the course is used to discharge treated wastewater, and Shulz says the county is most interested in making sure whoever buys the course will continue to allow the county to use the property for that purpose. If not, Carson City would have to explore some other options to discharge its wastewater and that could get expensive. For now, it is all in the discussion phase. But again, the newest development is the golf course is not eligible for bankruptcy protection from its creditors.
