From the Ask Joe file one of our viewers has a question about how the law works when it comes to ticket scalping ?
Donna Antraccoli wrote in saying she purchased tickets online from a company called Absolute Tickets for the upcoming Dolly Parton concert in Reno.  She says the tickets were $335.00 each and her card was billed a total of $872.00 including service charges.   When the tickets arrived the face value of each one was only $89.50.    She wants to know if it's legal for them to charge that much ?

I checked with both the Better Business Bureau and the Nevada Attorney General's office about this.
According to Jennifer Lopez in the attorney general's office,  there is no law in Nevada to outlaw ticket scalping.   There is a city ordinance in Las Vegas which prohibits it and state law does regulate how much can be tacked on in taxes to ticket sales but that's it.   So if you're outside of Las Vegas, and in this case the concert Donna is attending is in Reno, there's really nothing to prevent people from hiking those ticket prices.
The only advice I was able to find is to purchase your tickets through the box office directly, or call them and find out who their provider is.   In the case of the Reno Event Center it is Ticket Master so that's where you'd want to purchase your tickets for a show there.
