From the Ask Joe file, one of our viewers has a question about traffic issue north of town in Lemmon Valley.
Our viewer, Ryquee Saenz wrote in, and said there have been several accidents on the corner of Military Road and Lemmon Drive. Ryquee said last year they started construction to put in a signal light, but did not complete the project. Ryquee wants to know when the signal light will be completed?
The intersection of Lemmon Drive and Military Road is actually within Reno city limits, so Joe checked with the city's Traffic Engineer Steve Bunnell.
Bunnell said they did a traffic study about a year ago, and the numbers simply do not warrant a traffic signal at this point. Bunnell said they take into account traffic volume, as well as the number of accidents that have been reported.
Also, as for the traffic signal installation, that was simply infrastructure that was installed underground the last time crews repaved that section of road.
So the wiring is in place, if and when a signal is warranted. By the way, the cost of a new signal runs about $350,000, so they are not cheap.
But to our viewer or any others who have concerns along these lines, call Reno Direct at 334-INFO and report it to them. They will document your call, and send someone out to take a look at the situation to see if some changes need to be made.
