Ask Joe: Renown Admits Billing Mistake

Anabelle  Savage wrote in saying she received a bill from Sierra Nevada Cardiology for $21.35, which puzzled her because Sierra Nevada Cardiology is no longer around and she's never been to a SNCA doctor.   She wants to know if she should pay it ?

I checked with the PR team over at Renown Medical Center. They looked into it and told me it is a mistake that happened in their billing department.  Those bills were printed up on Sierra Nevada Cardiology letterhead and went out to as many as 1,400 patients in the community.
The amounts on the bills are correct, but they were not supposed to be on Sierra Nevada Cardiology letterhead.  
  Just for background Sierra Nevada Cardiology was acquired by Renown in 2010.  So you can imagine Anabelle's confusion when she got a bill from them.
  Renown says they do own that SNCA brand and logo but they didn't mean to use it, this was clearly a mistake.
If  you did receive one of those bills just ignore it.  Renown will be sending out bills with the correct information soon. 
And if you already paid it, Renown says it will be credited to the correct account.
If you do have questions about your bill call the Renown billing office at 785-9219. Renown also says they are working to fix the problem so it doesn't happen again.
