From the Ask Joe file, one of our viewers has a question about some damage to her vehicle that occurred while she was shopping at Walmart last weekend.
Danielle Swinehart wrote in saying several cars including hers were damaged by blowing landscape gravel at the Lemmon Valley Walmart parking lot on Saturday, February 15. Her question is shouldn't Walmart reimburse them for the damage to their vehicles?
Danielle even sent in a photo showing the entire back window of her car shattered. It happened when those very strong winds kicked up on Saturday. The winds were clocked at nearly 70 miles per hour in that area, according to News 4 Chief Meteorologist Brandon Wholey.
I did check with Walmart's corporate headquarters in Arkansas about this. Kayla Whaling told me that Walmart is reviewing a number of claims, but she couldn't tell me how many. It doesn't sound like any decisions have been made yet, but she said the store did take the proper precautions by notifying shoppers that the winds were kicking up and that they might want to move their cars from that parking lot.
So that's where it stands. I told Kayla I'd check back in a week to follow up and hopefully we'll find out then whether they are going to pay out any of those claims.
Keep in mind the weather is out of our control and out of Walmart's control as well and those were some unusually strong winds we saw last Saturday.
