Question:

From the Ask Joe file a question tonight about the new recycling program kicking off in Reno.
Brad wrote in commenting on the new single stream recycling program.  His question is since Reno has begun their new recycling program, when will Sparks be able to do the same ?

Answer:
We're talking about the new single stream recycling program. Waste Management hopes it will help increase the amount of waste that gets recycled and the new bins are being delivered to Reno residents this month (January 2014).
When will Sparks get on board ?  I checked with Adam Mayberry over at Sparks City Hall.   He says they have their own agreement with Waste Management but they have reached out to the company to let them know they are interested in starting a single stream program.   Right now the city is waiting to get a proposal from Waste Management.  Of course there are costs involved, so there will be some discussion by the city council before any thing moves forward.
But it sounds like Sparks residents will be hearing more about this in the near future, and will have their chance to voice their opinions before anything moves forward.  As always, we'll keep you posted.
