Denise Hall who lives in the River Park Subdivision off of West 4th Street wrote in to say a Union Pacific Train stopped for an hour and a half on Friday, August 23, blocking the only entrance into and out of her neighborhood. She wants to know why the train stopped where it did ?
I checked with Union Pacific about this. Their spokesman Aaron Hunt told me the train had a mechanical problem he says the railroad apologizes to residents for any inconvenience.
I also checked with the Reno Fire Department. It's interesting there is a secondary or emergency access. That road is blocked by a gate but the fire department doesn't have a key. Perhaps a possible solution is for the local fire station to have a key in case of emergency.
It was a big inconvenience on Friday, and residents are wondering what they would do if there was a fire or other type of emergency and that road was blocked by a stalled train. They say they would have no way out.
Thanks to denise for sending in that question. I know it's a frustrating situation and we'll keep following it to see if there might be a better solution out there.
