From the Ask Joe file, one of our viewers has a question about a big road construction project that has been off and on over the years: the Carson Freeway Bypass.
Randy Bair wrote in to say he lives in south Carson, and he is looking forward to the completion of the Carson Bypass Project. He said he has noticed more construction happening lately, and is wondering when the project is scheduled to be completed?
There has been some grading work going on in the area where the final section of the freeway will be built.
Here's how it breaks down. The first section of freeway was from Carson Hill to Fairview Drive. That is done.
The next section was Fairview to South Carson Street. This section is what they are working on now. The final phase will involve paving that stretch from Fairview to South Carson Street, and will not be done until 2016 or 2017. So there is still quite a bit of work to be done.
NDOT said the the price tag will be about $200 million dollars when it is complete.
There is one significant change in store. Plans for an overpass on the final leg of the project have been scrapped for now. Instead, an intersection will be built where the new road crosses South Carson Street. The overpass will be built later when the funding is available.
