From the Ask Joe file one of our viewers has a question about a birthday party for the First Lady Michelle Obama and the finances involved.
Nancy wrote in asking how much did Michelle Obama's birthday bash cost the taxpayers, or did the Obamas foot the bill ?

The First Lady turned 50 years old on Friday, January 17th, 2014.
Over the weekend the President reportedly threw her a birthday bash which included 500 guests and some big names like Beyonce and Stevie Wonder.  The party in the East Room of the White House lasted until the early hours of Sunday morning.  The media was not allowed to attend but some of the guests have leaked details about the party.
And we're told the Obama's picked up the tab for the event.
In addition the first lady also spent some extra time in Hawaii earlier this month as a birthday present from her husband.
According to one white house reporter slash blogger, the travel and secret service costs for that trip are estimated by some reports to be as high as $200,000 and the white house admitted that taxpayers are footing the bill for that trip.
White house press secretary Jay Carney told reporters last week, as with all personal travel, the first family will appropriately fund personal expenses.
So the Obama's paid for the party.   Taxpayers paid for a good chunk of her travel.

John Baner hisownself said the shutdown was a stupid mistake, and he wasn't talking about Obama. Republicans (tea party) engineered the whole thing-4 what? i don't think Obama was ever in Kenya-that's his father/uncle. Not positive, but I think it was mostly Indonesia. I see a lot of anti-this and that, but beyond debating healthcare, not a lotta reasoning that he has intent on "destroying" this country. He's a lawyer, how much more than hairy read do U need on that? U have plenty of other ranting forums, why sully this news spot with bilge U parrot from elsewhere? I can understand difference of opinion, etc., but right wingers?-repeat, rinse, repeat, rinse, spit out

At nv89436 Term limits are not soon enough. I will be supporting in 2014 anyone willing to impeach the Bully. As far as uninformed. I'm confident I'm more informed than you. Did you know that Nat Hentoff a liberal icon and constitutional expert is calling for Obama's impeachment?

Kramer-how do you figure hating Obama won't help? If we all hate him and his badministration,we'll work EXTRA hard to make sure he isn't able to continue to destroy the Country. And,BTW-the Republicans didn't "stage" a shut-down. THAT is ALL on Obama. The Republicans gave Obama exactly what he wanted-they enabled him to do what he SAID he'd do. How is that the fault of the Republicans? NV89436-Just curious how Obama got so rich-all the travel since he was a kid in Kenya, the Colleges he went to,and the Senate and of course his time as President-the office of President doesn't pay THAT much,He's a close second to Reid in growing up "dirt-poor" and becoming rich on Government salary. I'd be suggesting the IRS check into those two,but it appears they're showing to be "less than truthful". HMmmmmm....

So the Obama's paid for the party? Who paid for the extra Secret Service and all the related activity? Also, it seems a lot of libs are defensive about their President. Wonder why? Joe you should actually do some of your own research instead of relying on the White House hand outs. Poor journalism on your part.

taxpaying mom -You have heard of term limits, haven't you? And you probably are equally as uninformed that the Republicans have only won the majority vote in one of the last five elections. I'll bet you all are so disappointed the Obama's paid for this so you can't snivel about another non-issue.

Obama is a bully and a petty arrogant jerk. I thought Bush was bad. Obama is so much worse it isn't funny. I for one will be voting for anyone who well help shut down this dangerous megalomaniac.

times are tough-and the Republicans made things worse by staging a shut-down. Most in Congress are millionaires, U know; glad they are saving big bucks by cutting off unemployment. Hating Obama won't fix the economy, yet "everybody does it"
