CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — State lawmakers are continuing their tough stance on sex trafficking by introducing two bills aimed at raising awareness of the problem and helping victims.
Democratic Assemblyman Michael Sprinkle of Sparks and Republican Assemblyman John Hambrick of Las Vegas introduced the measures during Monday's first floor session.
AB311 creates the Contingency Account for Victims of Human Trafficking within the state general fund. Money would be allocated to victims or victim services organizations for assisting trafficked persons in their recovery.
The second bill, AB338, sets up a network of counseling programs to help trafficking victims — particularly children — and it requires state agencies to raise awareness of the problem in Nevada.
The bills are the latest of several introduced in the Nevada Legislature dealing with sex trafficking.
