CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A bill mandating background checks for gun purchases, prohibiting armor piercing bullets and taxing firearm sales has been introduced in the Nevada Assembly.

AB234 is sponsored by Democratic Majority Leader William Horne of Las Vegas. It was one of two bills dealing with guns introduced Monday. The other, AB232, is at the opposite end of the gun debate spectrum and would allow the carrying of concealed firearms without a permit.

Both bills were referred to the Assembly Judiciary Committee.

They are among several bills already pending in the Nevada Legislature in the wake of recent mass shootings around the country and the growing debate in Washington over gun policy and mental health.

Taxing firearms is nothing new. Every gun sale currently conducted with the state (in a retail setting) is taxed. Armor piercing ammo is rare....and who can afford such rounds anyway? What do they cost....like $2.00 a round? Personally, I like the idea of people having to be subjected to background checks. How else can it be determined if a person that you want to sell a gun to is legally authorized to own one? By taking their word for it? I think not. I don't sell any guns to anyone unless they either have a CCW permit, and/or a police badge on them....meaning that chances are better than not that they have been "screened" and LIKELY will be authorized to own a gun. And as far as the CCW permit being done away with, I'm all for thet too. We should not have to be subjected to additional "screening" every few years or so if we are allowed to own a firearm. A simple check of the police computer will show any warrants, and if none exist then that should suffice as a check. An armed society is a polite society. I am a proud member of the NRA, a former cop and a military veteran.

This needs to be shot down immediately. Tell me how taxing honest gun buyers is going to reduce or prevent crime? Also I have been shooting for 50 years and I have never seen ARMOR piercing rounds on a shelf anywhere.
