RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Assistance League of Reno-Sparks Links to Learning program is giving $100,000 to three middle schools in Washoe County School District and 208 elementary school teachers in addition to donating 8,300 books.
Three middle schools (Sparks Middle School, Cold Springs Middle School and Pine Middle School) will receive awards totaling $46,423. Each school will receive $15,000 to $16,200 to support a major educational project for their school.
Over the next three weeks, Assistance League of Reno-Sparks will be awarding 208 teachers $53,577 for 123 projects at 18 elementary schools. The awards, which are funded by grants and donations and the Assistance League’s Thrift Shop revenues, are designed to provide teachers with the funding to do something extra in their classrooms without spending their personal resources.
Assistance League of Reno-Sparks Links to Learning program is coordinating the distribution of 8,300 books to 18 Washoe County elementary schools and Kids Kottage. The books were donated by the Molina Foundation.
Volunteers from the Assistance League and seniors from Truckee Meadows Community College High School will be unpacking the 8,300 books, repacking them for individual schools, and delivering them to the schools.
