MINDEN, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Authorities in Minden are looking for one or more arson suspects that may have been involved in three recent fires.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the East Fork Fire and Paramedic District received several reports of fires in the Gardnerville Ranchos. On August 24, a vegetation fire was reported in the vacant lot behind 1309 Langley Ave. The fire ignited a NV Energy Power Pole and knocked out power to an apartment building nearby.
While East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts firefighters worked to put the fire out -- and NV Energy responded to keep power on at the apartments -- a second fire was reported behind the Frontier Telephone Exchange located south on Tillman Ave from the Langley street address. As firefighters responded to the scene, yet another fire was reported in a vacant field further south along Tillman Ave. All three fires were quickly extinguished.
According to officials, damage to the apartment building's electrical system, fence, and exterior wall is estimated to be about $2500. Damage to the NV Energy pole and equipment is unknown at this time.
Neighbors reported seeing young male(s) in the vicinity, prior to discovering the fires. Those with any information are being asked to call Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigations at 782- 9905 or Douglas County Dispatch at 782-5126.
