UPDATE: According to NHP, they received first reports of the avalanche at 12:48. The area affected by the avalanche is near the summit of Mount Rose, and currently NHP troopers are shuttling drivers across one open lane of traffic. The department of transportation is expected to use controlled explosions to trigger more avalanches that would clear the road, during that brief period of time the road will be completely closed.
Officials say that the avalanche was caused by a snowboarder who was snowboarding out of bounds. The snowboarder is reportedly in good condition and suffered no injuries.
Reno, NV (KRNV & MyNews4.com)-- NHP reports that one lane of Mount Rose Highway has been closed after an Avalanche.
According to Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Chuck Allen, one lane of the Mount Rose Highway has been closed so officials can begin snow cleanup. If the Nevada of Department of Transportation is called to clear more snow and repair the roadway, chances are that the entire highway could be temporarily shut down.
