MINDEN, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- US Forest Service officials are doing everything they can to make sure they're prepared for the 2014 fire season.
Wednesday, a BAE-146 fire bomber was put to the test at the Minden airport. The drill was as real as it gets -- including a test site where hundreds of buckets were setup to collect the fire retardant so officials could measure how accurate the drop would be on a real fire.
Officials were also there to check out the plane because it has to be certified before it can fight a real fire. The new plane can carry twice the retardant load as previous aircraft. Once certified, the plane can be used anywhere in the United States.
