i think that making sure the quality and content of the REQUIRED classes to obtain your ccw permit is also important. I used to carry on TMCC a sheathed legal knofe for protection for walking out to my car when I was 19-21 since firearms were not allowed. I never had to take a training class to carry a knife, and they are almost quicker and dealier in th wrong hands of anyone who carries them; which is nearly everyone since its not part of the law if the blade is short enough:-) i beleive since CCW's require training, fingerprinting and backround checks to even get one, it should be allowed. maybe we can prevent the next mass shooting on a large campus, or robbery of a store. and help the limited number of police and civil servants that we make cutbacks to every year. it is our responsibility as American Citizens to carry and be armed and have common ( or trained) sense to defend their own country and not just leave it to the police:-)

Andy, I agree with the concept of a citizen's right to bear arms and protect themselves. As a LEO, I do on a daily basis, on and off duty. However, once a person gets a CCW permit they have a great responsibility. I am not sure in this day and age the average 18 or 19 year old college student has the maturity to ALWAYS be responsible with a firearm. I can see a drunk 19 year old, barhopping in downtown Reno, with severely diminished capacity trying to stop a robbery or avert an assault and become a victim themselves or victimize other innocent bystanders. Are there responsible 18/19 year olds? Yes. Are most of that age group responsible enough to carry a gun and use deadly force appropriately. I don't think so. Maybe it should be the employees of the university, professors, instructors, office staff that are armed, trained and prepared to act. Just as most pilots are armed and prepared to defend their aircraft, or judges are armed and prepared to defend themselves in and out of their courtrooms.

Of course, concealed weapons permit owners should be able to carry on campus. Women and Men alike. The CCW is about, yes, I know I am carrying, and yes, I am responsible, and yes, I can protect myself and a loved one or the public at large if necessary. On campus, if all is unarmed, then the threat is at large knowing no one is carrying. For the public at large, like the days when the west was won, no one would have a gun fight if all were carrying. Carry and be proud and be responsible to protect the lives of others and yourself. Cops are not always around - name the list of those that have died when a cop was needed, when all we needed was a CCW courage provider. NRA for Life, Andy
