SMITH VALLEY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The voluntary evacuation remains in effect for parts of Smith Valley near the Bison fire.
Lyon County Manager Jeff Page said Bison Command is requesting the evacuation of residents in Smith Valley who are North of Artist View and West of Upper Colony Road.
An evacuation center was set up at Smith Valley Baptist Church, but is now closed after no evacuees went to the site for shelter.
Smith Valley volunteer firefighter and pastor Travis Walker said he's not surprised no one came to the evacuation center at his church.
"Everybody kind of helps everybody evacuate and I don't expect we'll see any evacuees stay here tonight because people have friends and family," Walker said.
If you're in doubt about whether or not to leave your home, Walker is suggesting you err on the side of caution and leave.
"It's hard to leave things behind that belong to you and that you love and cherish, but your life is more important than any property," Walker said.
If you bring small pets with you when you evacuate and need help finding a safe place for them, call Lyon County Dispatch for more information at 775-463-6620.
Large animal evacuations of the area are complete, said Willis Lamm of the Lyon County Large Animal Team.
