RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The Washoe County School Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to approve a settlement offer of $25,000 to Pedro Martinez.

The WCSD is set to have a confidential mediation with Pedro Martinez under the supervision of Judge Hardy on September 22. What is decided then will be subject to approval during a later public meeting.

Martinez will have 10 days to accept or decline the offer.

Martinez is suing the school district after he was "relieved of his duties" in July. His million dollar lawsuit alleges the school board violated Nevada's Open Meeting Laws throughout the process.

What a ridiculous situation the board has created. This offer has "let's sweep this under the rug" written all over it. And now with the ousted officer filing a lawsuit against Martinez, more taxpayer $$ being wasted on lawsuits that could be going where it's needed, to the education of our children. I don't know what kind of job Mr. Martinez is doing as I no longer have kids in the local schools, but the board acted like small town bullies (big surprise in Reno) and are now backpeddling to save their own necks. Shame on them. Every one should be voted out.

Paladin, with graduation and drop-out rates heading in the right direction, improvements in testing scores, and WCSD being recognized for fiscal responsibility under Martinez, I'm curious what specifically you would identify as "doing a horrible job". When steering a big ship you don't see results immediately but over the long haul. You chastise Tonysam as having some sort of ax to grind but all of your posts have been far from objective and vitriolic towards Martinez. Hello kettle, meet pot.

This is a prime example of how our Government is failing us. From the President to Congress all the way down to a little School Board! The System works just fine, it's inept individuals(with their own agenda's) that is causing this train wreck!

Tonysam, you need to control your anger and stop with the personal attacks, or I might take offense. You obviously have an ax to grind in this situation. Likely, you are a bitter EX employee of the school district with your obvious vitriolic attitude towards them. With all your rage against them, I understand you can't be objective. And I do understand the situation, likely much better than you.

OK OK OK, So the school board is inept and may have conducted their meeting illegally. Correct it and get back to business. AND the next item of business is revisiting why the board wanted to take action in the first place. Martinez allegedly lied to get the job and has done a horrible job during his time here. The board needs to do it legally and GET RID OF HIM! Let's try to improve our school district and the education of our children. That isn't happening currently under the Pedro Martinez administration or the current board.

"ONLY IF HE RESIGNS TOO!!! They may have gotten the process wrong but their intent was good. Pedro has been a disaster for this school district and needs to go down the road."--Stupidest comment EVER. "The process" is the LAW, for crying out loud. Don't post here if you don't even understand it.

He didn't lie on his resume. Get a clue. Your district is made up of a gang of crooks.

If you want to look at frivolous lawsuits, look no further than the one filed by Mike Mieras. Instead of going out and finding another police chief job or other high-ranking police job, which he would likely get, he thinks he's entitled to work at WCSD. Typical entrenched bum mentality by school district administrators included those who are sacked. This despite the fact Martinez acted within the law. The Board did NOT act within the law when it tried to dump Martinez. 25K is a pittance. He should accept only if the Board resigns. They not only committed legal violations, they also defamed him.

So then Localyoocal, you've personally laid eyes on his resume, right? I will admit that I have not, however I have a very reliable source that Mr Martinez DID in fact work as a CPA for a school district in Chicago. So, how was it that he lied?
