RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows will partner with Hot August Nights to set up its 'Great Futures Rally' underneath the Reno Arch Thursday.
The pop-up Club and rally is part of a national launch of the Great Futures Campaign, an initiative to support the future of children everywhere. The pop-up Boys & Girls Club will include a sample of the Club’s programming areas, including education, arts, games and recreation. The focus of the event is to not only create awareness, but to highlight what goes on inside Boys & Girls Clubs each school day after 3 p.m. -- the critical after-school hours.
The Campaign looks to elevate the critical role out-of-school time plays in a child’s chance for a great future. According to a recent press release by the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, 15 million kids leave school every day with no place to go, putting them at risk of being "unsupervised, unguided and unsafe."
The press release goes on to say the hours between school and home can have a dramatic impact on a child’s future. By providing access to positive and productive programs, as well as caring adult mentors during the out-of-school time, the Boys & Girls Club hopes to reverse negative trends facing our youth.
The rally will take place July 31 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Virginia St. at the intersection with Commercial Row. For more information about the Great Futures Campaign or the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows visit BGCTM.org.
