SPARKS, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Crews from the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District are fighting an early morning brush fire that burned more than five acres near the Derby Dam.
According to Tim Leighton from the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, the fire started off Interstate 80, between the Truckee River and the railroad tracks near the Derby Dam exit. It started around 4:15 a.m. Saturday.
Crews from TMFPD, Storey County, Peavine volunteers, the Nevada Division of Forestry responded to the fire that took about four hours to contain. Crews are still on scene to make sure that all hot spots are put out. No structures were threatened at any time, but the railroad was shut down in both directions for just over an hour while crews fought the blaze near the tracks.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
