RENO, Nev. (AP) — Wayne Burgarello's arraignment has been postponed until next week on charges of murder and attempted murder in the shooting of unarmed trespassers at a home he owned in Sparks.
The 73-year-old former school teacher had been scheduled to go before Washoe District Judge Patrick Flanagan on Wednesday, but the court date has been pushed back until Sept. 10.
Burgarello was released from jail last week when he posted $150,000 bail that had been reduced from $2 million.
He was arrested in May in the killing of 34-year-old Cody Devine and the serious wounding of a woman he found inside his often-burglarized, vacant duplex in February.
Burgarello claims he was acting in self-defense in the case that has drawn attention to Nevada's "stand your ground" law.
