RENO, Nev. (AP) — Tesla Motors has selected Nevada for a massive, $5 billion factory that it will build to pump out batteries for a new generation of electric cars.

A person with familiar with Tesla's plans said Wednesday that Nevada beat out four other states which were vying for the project.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because no official announcement has been made, said work soon will resume on a site outside Reno.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval's office said only that the governor will make a "major economic development announcement" Thursday afternoon. A Tesla spokesman says company representatives will be at the Capitol for the announcement.

The other finalist states were California, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Tesla has decided that it will build its battery "gigafactory" in Nevada, according to CNBC.

"That's a go, but they are still negotiating the specifics of the contract," a source within the Nevada's governor's office told CNBC Wednesday afternoon.

The source noted that it could be a week before the deal is officials. Nevada is planning a press conference Thursday in Carson City, according to a Dow Jones report.

Doubt it. Sometimes when you get a contract, it's because you missed something. This is like Cabelas and the ball stadium, freebies that put nothing back into the community. In fact, we will end up paying them to be here. And eventually that factory will be run by robots
