BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. (AP) — A California driver accused of striking and killing two road workers in an Interstate 80 construction zone in northern Nevada could face charges.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jim Stewart says charges are pending the completion of his agency's investigation of Tuesday's accident east of Battle Mountain.

He told the Elko Daily Free Press that the NHP will send its report to the district attorney's office, which will decide whether to press charges.

Authorities say 69-year-old driver Candace Gittins of Fort Bragg, Calif., was approaching stopped traffic along Interstate 80 when she swerved into orange construction barrels to avoid other cars.

She struck four workers employed by the company A-Core. Fifty-three-year-old Vicki Stenovich died at the scene, while 47-year-old Arthur Lucero died after being taken to a Reno hospital.

She was charged almost 10 months after the accident. The charges are a joke and a slap in the families faces. I lost my only brother and Vickie's children lost their Mother. Her bail was set at 8,140 which I believe she only has to come with 10%. Two lives lost and bail is less than a used car. You gotta love our Justice System.

2 counts of Manslaughter at least, 2nd degree Murder at best. She was probably speeding to get in front of a few more cars and then pull in to get there a seconds sooner. She's not in Cal anymore. Here in Nevada we hold people accountable for their ACTIONS!

isn't it interesting? how hypocritical our nation is? We abhor murder such as this But, alot don't bat an eye at a nation(the US) who has murdered more of its own unborn? any killing is wrong. If she is guilty, then she must standup for her crime. period.

I agree! Her inattention killed two people and seriously injured two others! She needs to face the music! And I don't care if she was a nice lady or not! I don't think the victims are going to find much comfort in that!

Could face charges? The old bat KILLED two people and she COULD face charges? No wonder this "society" is in the dumper, no one is ever held accountable. Might hurt their feeling.
