LOUISVILLE, Ky. ( & KRNV) -- California Chrome, a horse owned by Steve and Carolyn Coburn of Topaz Lake has won 140th Kentucky Derby. California Chrome, based at lesser-known Los Alamitos racetrack in suburban Los Angeles, was the early 5-2 favorite for the race. He has won four straight races by a combined 24 ¼ lengths under Victor Espinoza, who won the Derby in 2002 with War Emblem. California Chrome pulled away down the stretch for a dominant win the 140th Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs. Taking charge at the top of the lane, California Chrome and jockey Victor Espinoza made a decisive move and quickly sprinted clear. They finished the 1 1/4 miles in 2:03.66. The 5-2 favorite stretched his winning streak to five and Art Sherman, 77, became the oldest winning Derby trainer.
In a game dominated by millionaires and billionaires, this was a victory for the little guys. Owners Perry Martin and Steve Coburn bred an $8,000 mare to a $2,500 stallion to win the world's most famous race with their one-horse stable.  Long shot Commanding Curve rallied for second, with Danza third. Wicked Strong was fourth.

a "bettor known' racetrack in La La land, Hollywood Park, closed in 2013 and is now "virtual" racing Only. Fairplex in Pomona (yes, there's NHRA there) is another location which is co-locating quarter horse and thoroughbred racing with Los Alamitos. Try thourough-read B4 U "publish", Nv4!
