RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- The candidate filing deadline is approaching fast, and many races have a long list of candidates. The deadline is Friday, March 14.
As of Friday afternoon, 18 different candidates have signed up for the Reno Mayoral Race, and 12 candidates have signed up for the Governor's race. Four candidates have signed up for the Washoe County Sheriff Race.
Luanne Cutler, with the Washoe County Registrar of Voters, said during a non-presidential election year, only 30-35% of voters participate in the primary election. This year's primary election will be held on June 10, with early voting beginning on May 24. Cutler hopes since there are so many candidates, voter turnout is actually closer to 38-40%.
Cutler said you can expect to see about 200 names on the Washoe County ballot in the primary election.
The top two winners from the primary race will go against each other in the general election this November.
