Stolen car driven into Virginia Lake

Update 7:00 a.m. - Reno Police say they are looking for a suspect after an armed robbery, grand theft auto incident.

A witness saw the driver swim to the shore and walk out of the area. Shortly after responding to the accident, RPD received a report of an armed robbery where a vehicle was taken at gunpoint in the area of Wrondel and Linden.  The female victim was not injured. 

During the search of Virginia Lake Officers learned that the vehicle stolen during the robbery was the same vehicle that ended up in Virginia Lake. 

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 5'9 tall, with a medium build.  The suspect was wearing a black baseball cap, a black sweat shirt, and dark pants.

The Reno Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.  Anyone having information relating to this crime or the suspect should contact the Reno Police Department at 334-2115, Secret Witness at 322-4900,, or text the tip to 847411 (TIP 411) keyword - SW
Update 11:50p.m. - Crews on scene tell News 4 there was no one else inside the car.

The driver who fled the scene is still at large.

Reno, NV (KRNV & News 4 is on scene at Virginia Lake where a car drove into the lake around 9:45p.m. tonight, March 14, 2013.

Fire crews on scene tell News 4 that a witness saw someone get out of the car and flee the scene on foot.

Divers just located the car that is completely submerged off of Lakeside Dr. and Eastshore Dr.

It is unknown at this time if there was anyone else in the car.
