Police say the incident happened around 9:30pm at the corner of 4th and Valley Street. The 69-year-old driver of the vehicle was driving westbound on 4th Street from the Wells underpass, when police say the driver suffered an unknown medical issue. The driver swerved into the eastbound lanes and struck a generator and several power poles, severing one completely in half before coming to a complete stop.
The driver was transported to the hospital and is currently in surgery for injuries believed to have been sustained in the crash. The injuries are not considered life-threatening at this time. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. There were no other vehicles involved.
NV Energy responded and is currently attempting to repair the power poles. Eastbound 4th Street was closed for several hours while repairs were being made.
