Carson City, NV (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Carson City Red Kettle Campaign is nearly 3 weeks in and Salvation Army Lt. Mark Cyr says donations are falling short.

“Need knows no season,” says Lt. Mark Cyr of the Salvation Army. Cyr says the annual Red Kettle Campaign helps more than 17,000 individuals throughout Carson City, Dayton and Douglas County each year.

From summer kids camps to emergency disaster services the Salvation Army uses the money you donate during the holidays, all year long.

Unfortunately, this year has been a challenge. From Thanksgiving falling late, which postponed the beginning of the campaign, to recent snowstorms and freezing temperatures, Cyr says the fundraiser is falling short by about 20 percent compared to last year.

Cyr says he was short 9 bell ringers on Monday morning due to the cold. A shortage in volunteers means fewer donation sites, but Cyr says he is confident in the Carson City community and wants to remind you that every penny counts.

“Last night we counted over $500.00 in change. So your handful of change is adding up to a changed life here in this community,” says Lt. Mark Cyr of the Salvation Army.

If you would like to donate to the Salvation in a different way you can also be a part of the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Christmas program which will benefit from the first annual Battle of the Bars Toy Drive.

Carson City bars and taverns have been collecting toys since late November and will push for a final count this Sunday, December 15th at 6:00p.m. The Salvation Army officials will be “Bar Hopping” this Sunday afternoon and evening picking up toys and thanking everyone for their support of this Toy Drive.
