UPDATE -2:45PM - According to the Carson City Fire Department, just before 1pm this afternoon, a fire started in a multi-building apartment complex on the 3400 block of Airport Road. The building houses six individual apartments.
The fire started in the downstairs apartment, and made its way up through the exterior and interior walls to the attic space on the second floor.
Carson City Fire says three Carson Fire engines and one East Fork engine responded to the scene. The fire and smoke was controlled within 30-40 minutes.
Two apartments on the top apartment (above the apartment that started the fire) sustained moderate damage and the one apartment underneath that sustained extensive damage, Carson Fire says.
The other units only sustained smoke damage.
Two families need relocation assistance and Red Cross was called to help.
There were no injuries and everyone was evacuated. Fire crews also saved three dogs, two cats and an aquarium full of reptiles.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and investigators are on the scene.
UPDATE - 2:15 - Airport Road is closed in both directions, according to Carson Fire.
