CARSON CITY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Officials are warning of a jury duty scam that is going around and has already victimized several people.

According to Sheriff's Deputies, residents are receiving calls from people claiming to be the police. The scammers tell their victims they have missed jury duty and will be jailed if they do not pay a fine through MoneyPak.

Rilla Owens was victimized by this scam, and she noticed a red flag for anyone who may get a similar call. "I tried calling the 800 number on the back of the MoneyPak card and this is what I'm more concerned about then getting scammed: You can't get a person, and you can't report a fraud."

Owens says there is no way to get her money back. Deputies ask if you get one of these calls to inform the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
