RENO, Nev. (KRNV & -- Officials from the Carson City Sheriff's Office have confirmed the suspect in connection with this weekend's homicide is dead. Michael Brentlinger, 22, was located at Manzanita Park in Reno, where police say he shot himself.

Law enforcement from across the state had been looking for Brentlinger since Saturday, after he was accused of critically shooting his ex-girlfriend and fatally shooting her father with a .45-caliber handgun. Brentlinger was recently in the Carson City Jail on charges relating to an assault that took place against the ex-girlfriend. She filed a restraining order against Brentlinger prior to Saturday's shooting.

Brentlinger showed up at his father's home not far from Manzinita Park on foot on Monday. Reno Police said the father told his son to leave and called police just before 1 p.m. Within minutes, police were on scene and located Brentlinger by the tennis court.

Reno Police Lieutenant Bill Rulla said that he tried to talk him out of it. "I tried to talk to him, have a conversation with him. I talked to him for about three or four minutes. Then, he shot himself in the head.

Police are still looking for Brentlinger's vehicle. The search has taken them to Washoe Valley, based on statements the suspect made to his father.

temeculajim; I love guns too,and I know this flies against your ridiculous uneducated point of view, but I'm not going to shoot any innocent people, nor shoot myself with any of my guns. See-lawful gun owners don't do stupid stuff like that, but ironically the anti-gun crowd wants to take our guns from us so WE can't defend ourselves from mentally unstable people with stolen or black-market guns. I know you didn't SAY anything about that, but even a sarcastic comment like yours tells what you're really all about. Well,if you happen to be robbed or assaulted,I promise not to violate your sensibilities by using my gun to stop the harm. You're welcome.
