Cessna plane down in Sierra County

UPDATE - 3:52PM - According to Tahoe National Forest, emergency crews have just gotten to the scene. The fire is contained to the plane, and has not spread to forest.

NTSB is on the way to investigate.

It is unknown if there are any casualties.

UPDATE - 2:46PM - According to Ann Westling with Tahoe National Forest, the downed plane is located in California along the Sierra Crest three miles west of the stateline.

The plane is east of Stampede Reservoir and 10-15 miles northeast of Truckee in Sierra County in a remote location.




SIERRA COUNTY, Calif. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Emergency crews are responding to reports of a downed Cessna plane in Sierra County.

Sierra County Sheriff's Office says the report came from the Tahoe National Forest where witnesses say they saw smoke west of Verdi.

Crews are unsure of exactly where it's located.

Cessna is having a rough go of it lately;the crash over near Spooner was also a Cessna.
