RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) - The Nevada Cheer Team is rallying support for a local mom who is fighting for her life. Elisa Storke was diagnosed with cancer just before Thanksgiving. The doctors told her cancer is spreading throughout her entire body including her lungs, liver, brain, and spine.
"I was flabbergasted," Storke says.
Since her diagnosis, the 33-year-old mom says she's received an outpouring of community support. "It made me feel hopeful, uplifted, and motivated," Storke says.
Storke also says she is surrounding by love from her family including her 8-month-old son Dylan and her husband Jon. "You can see I have a lot to fight for," Storke says.
Storke is currently in her first cycle of chemotherapy. She takes two pills a day. For a 30-day supply, one pill costs $12,000 and the other $10,000. As you can imagine, costs for treatment are climbing rapidly.
"There is no cure, the goal is to prolong my life," Storke says.
The community is helping Storke with her fight. The Nevada Cheer Team is hosting an open gym at Five Star Athletics to help raise money for Elisa.
Cheer for Elisa is Saturday, January 18th from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The cost is $20 for all ages and skill levels. 100% of the proceeds will go straight to Elisa.
