RENO, Nev. (KRNV& -- Renown Children's Hospital is turning to Twitter to make the kids' stays more fun.

14-year-old Nikki Stone has been in the hospital off and on since November, after complications from scoliosis surgery. She's missing school, her friends, and normal pre-teen activities.

"She's really been through the gamut," Renown Child Life Specialist Angie McEvers said. "To be here through Christmas and to spend your birthday in the hospital is no fun."

McEvers says they try to help the kids have a little fun. They have games and books, and a room especially for teens.

Now they're also using technology to cheer up the kids.

"It's a great way to build awareness in the community of kids that are in the hospital and need some cheering up," McEvers said.

They'll be checking in on Twitter at @RenownScribbles and #TweetTheLove.

"We can look them up on the screen while they're here and I print them out and give them to them when they come in for their visits," McEvers said.

McEvers says laughter is the best medicine, so send some funny tweets. Whatever the tweet, the message is clear.

"There's a lot of kids who are in and out of hospitals on a chronic basis that could use some love, so tweet the love," McEvers said.

You can send tweets to the kids through the end of the month.
