RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - The City of Reno is accepting applications for Public Safety Dispatcher in Emergency Communications (ECOMM). The closing date for accepting applications is Friday, February 24, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.
ECOMM provides the point of contact for the citizens of Reno and Washoe County when an emergency strikes. They provide dispatch services for the public safety providers at the Reno Police Department, Reno Fire Department, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, University of Nevada-Reno Police, Truckee Meadows Community College Police, Sierra Fire Protection District, the Reno Marshals Office, and Washoe County Alternative Sentencing.
Applicants for Public Safety Dispatcher must be able to work in a fast-paced, team oriented environment and be able to multi-task. The job requires working varying shifts, weekends and/or holidays. The position is responsible for receiving, evaluating, prioritizing and dispatching public safety calls for service; responding to emergency and non-emergency calls in a timely and appropriate manner; and operating a variety of communication equipment including radio, telephone, TDD and computer systems.
Minimum qualifications include:• One year experience as a radio or telephone dispatcher, telephone/PBX operator or telephone service representative in a high call volume environment, or closely related experience.
• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Typing proficiency of 45 words per minute, corrected
• U.S. Citizen
