SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- When asked how residents rate the overall quality of life in Sparks, 91 percent said it was good to excellent, an increase of 7 points from 2011 the last time the survey was administered.
The City says the annual survey examines a variety of city services ranging from public safety to transportation. A total of 88 percent responded with good to excellent when it comes to the overall quality of services in Sparks, an increase of eight points from 2011.
Special events in downtown Sparks remain popular; according to the survey, 81 percent of respondents support the City adding more special events.
Of the 503 residents surveyed, unemployment was rated by 88.5 percent as a medium to large problem. 82.3 percent rated housing market and foreclosures as a medium to large problem. Other top concerns include gang activity, rated by 73.7 percent; and education/schools rated by 73.1 percent as medium to large problems. 72.3 percent named graffiti and 71 percent named city budget/reduction in services as medium to large problems.
The survey has a margin of error of +/- 5 percent. Respondents were polled in February 2013 and were randomly selected from a computerized list from the Washoe County voter registration database.
