LAS VEGAS, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Clark County officials have declared a state of emergency after heavy rains battered the area for more than a week, causing homes and roads to be damaged by mud and debris washing by.

County commissioners approved the declaration on Wednesday, in hopes of obtaining state and federal Emergency Management Agency funds to cover cleanup costs. The declaration still needs state approval.

Officials say the county has spent more than $300,000 repairing roads and drainage following the Carpenter Fire last year.
