SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Spring is here and with it come construction and road closures.
The City of Sparks is realigning the North Truckee Drain for flood mitigation and to do the work they'll be shutting down Greg Street from the I-80 ramps to Larkin Circle for a week.
Both city and state officials want you to know construction season is here, so you need to pay extra attention on the roads.
"Our construction season is about to begin very, very quickly," said NDOT District Engineer Thor Dyson.
Dyson said they will have just a few major projects near Mount Rose Highway, Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50.
"This year will be on the slow side as opposed to previous summers," he said.
Sparks is undergoing some road work as well. City spokesman Adam Mayberry said it's important for people to know where work is being done.
"If you can avoid areas where there's lane reductions and lane closures that's always a good idea," Mayberry said.
You can help protect yourself and the crews.
"It's a partnership," Dyson said. "We can't do this all alone. We need the public to be partners with us and the contractors to make it all safe for everyone."
Mayberry said the bright orange warnings signs are just that: warnings.
"It's serious business," he said. "So we really do need to encourage people to slow down when they see those orange diamond signs that road construction is ahead."
So while you're out enjoying spring, make sure you're focused on the roads.
Greg Street will be closed in both directions starting Sunday night at 8:00 through next Sunday at 8:00.
Mayberry advises using Interstate 80 as an alternate for East to West travel and Vista Boulevard for North to South travel.
