RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Nevada Department of Transportation says Las Vegas-based Meadow Valley Contractors Inc. blames design flaws for completion delay of the Meadowood Mall freeway interchange. NDOT says Meadow Valley Contractors now wants to be paid an additional $1.4 million.
In their contract, Meadow Valley Contractors, Inc. was given 460 working days to finish the Meadowood Mall exchange project before they would face a penalty of $5,300 per day. The last day was supposed to be in September, but NDOT says it has been 540 working days, and they are 80 working days behind currently.
NDOT says working days are not counted if there is a weather-related stoppage (snow, rain, etc.).
It’s expected that the project may not be finished until at least the first or second week of April, which would then put the company at almost a $500,000 penalty in liquid damages. NDOT has not determined what they will do, but they are currently assessing the situation and will make their decision in the summer, after the project is completed.
